Illustration Style

At Empowered On Publishing, we value the significance of illustrations in Picture Books, considering them as important as the stories themselves. We seek talented artists who showcase a distinct style and visionary approach, aiming for global success and recognition.

Our diligent payment system compensates illustrators based on milestones of accomplishment. We highly value long-term relationships and aim to establish enduring partnerships with talented illustrators. As a publishing company, we have a series of books in our production pipeline, providing ongoing opportunities for collaboration and creative projects.

When collaborating with an illustrator, we prioritize the following criteria:

  1. Ability to portray the essence of each character through distinctive appearances and emotive expressions, avoiding the use of premade vector templates.
  2. Artistic style that emulates traditional pen and watercolor techniques, even if created digitally. We prefer clean lines and avoid blurry digital art that appears muddy.
  3. Our picture book series features modern and quirky stories with unique characters. Each character has their own distinct personality reflected in their style of dress. While we appreciate traditional illustrations, we are seeking illustrators who can bring out the edginess of our characters and create relatable visuals that resonate with children today.
  4. Proficiency in comprehending and translating the manuscript into illustrations is vital. Our stories possess engaging narratives, and it is crucial for the illustrator to thoroughly understand the intent and vision of the writer through the manuscript and accompanying illustration notes. This understanding should guide the sketching process, ensuring that the illustrations effectively bring the story to life.
  5. Finally, a crucial aspect is the illustrator’s reliability in delivering work as promised within the agreed-upon timeline. It is important that the illustrator can effectively manage their time and commit to completing the project within the designated timeframe. This ensures a smooth and timely production process for the picture book project.
